Dental Bridges
When you lose a permanent tooth, your first thoughts will likely center around what replacement options are available to you. Dental implants are regarded as the best tooth replacement option, but they also come at a price point that may be out of reach for some patients. In these instances, a dental bridge may be the next-best option.
As the name implies, dental bridges can be used to bridge one or two missing teeth. To create a sturdy restoration, the two two neighboring teeth of the restoration are shaved down in order to accommodate porcelain crowns. These crowns are fused with either one or two pontics (artificial teeth). The crowns and pontic (artificial tooth) can be tinted to perfectly match neighboring teeth. In all likelihood, only your dentist will know you have a dental bridge!
Dental Bridges Last from 5 to 15 Years
Dental bridges typically last anywhere from five to fifteen years, although there are many cases of bridges outlasting these figures. With the relatively low cost of bridges (compared to implant surgery), many patients will wear a dental bridge until they have saved up enough for a dental implant.
How Much Do Dental Bridges Cost?
According to the Consumer Guide to Dentistry, most dental bridge procedures cost somewhere in the range of $1,500 to $3,000. Some factors that influence the cost of dental bridges include the materials chosen, location of the bridge, and the complexity of the treatment. Dental insurance can significantly lower the cost of the treatment, but be sure to verify with your insurance carrier to determine whether the procedure is considered a restorative procedure and not an esthetic treatment.
Dental Implants
Dental implants are considered the gold standard of tooth replacement options. Dental implants are surgically implanted into the jawbone, replicating the function, feel, and esthetics of natural teeth. Plus, dental implants can last a lifetime so long as proper care is observed.
Dental implants can even be used for full-mouth rehabilitation procedures, essentially replacing full rows of teeth. A full row of teeth can be replaced with just four implants. These four implants are then used to support a full zirconia or porcelain bridge.

Dental Crowns
Dental crowns are frequently recommended in cases where the tooth has become compromised or weakened as a result of dental trauma, extensive cavities, disease, or root canal therapy. Dental crowns not only strengthen the tooth, they also act as a barrier that protects the tooth against infection.
If you are considering dental crowns, you may be happy to know that they are available in a variety of materials, including porcelain, zirconia, porcelain-fused-to-metal, and gold. While porcelain crowns are the most common, other material types do have their own unique benefits in terms of strength and esthetics. The staff at Hall Family Dental would be happy to discuss your options.
